Frequently Asked Questions and Recommended Tackle

Welcome to the 100' Paramount FAQ section, your go-to resource for all the essential information you need before your next fishing trip. Here, we address common questions to ensure you have a seamless and enjoyable experience aboard fishing vessel. Whether you're curious about boarding times, fishing tackle, or other trip details, you'll find all the answers here.

  • What if it's my first time fishing?
    Our experienced and professional crew will show you how to fish, and they are available throughout the fishing trip to assist you.
  • Do I need a reservation?
    Reservations are recommended but not necessary for all trips. Walk-ons are welcome however, paid reservations board first at the initial boarding time. If you are planning to fish with us on a weekend, holiday or have a group of 4 or more we STRONGLY recommend booking in advance on our website.
  • What time should I arrive and where do I park?
    We recommend being down no later than 1 hour prior to departure. There are plenty of free parking spots available in our parking lot where the boat docks.
  • What should I bring?
    Cooler - Ice - Snacks, Drinks & Meals - Protection from the Weather - Rod, Reel, Tackle (if you have it) Cooler: We recommend bringing a cooler (up to 80qt) for your catch and a smaller cooler for your personal snacks, meals and beverages if needed. Ice: Available to purchase at the dock or tackle shop. Snacks, Drinks & Meals: Limited hot and cold snacks are available for purchase. Guests may use our microwave to heat up their food. Coffee, Bottled water & cans of soda are also available for purchase. Protection from the Weather: seasonally appropriate clothing - foul weather gear (if needed) Your Rods, Reels, Tackle: If you do not have your own, rental rod + reel combos with an initial rig are available on board for rent. Additional tackle is available for purchase on board as well.
  • Are fish cleaning services available on the boat?
    Yes, fish cleaning services are available. The crew will clean, filet and bag your fish for a nominal fee.
  • Should I tip the crew/mates?
    Yes, if you have enjoyed your trip. The crew is professional and attends to your needs. Please tip the crew based on how helpful you feel they were, not based on how many fish you catch. The crew relies on your generosity; it is similar to waitresses or bartenders.
  • What type of amenities are on board?
    The boat has a large cabin with seating and some table space, and it is heated during the colder months. We have a women’s and men’s bathroom on board. There is a snack bar on board that has limited hot and cold snacks available for purchase. Guests may use our microwave to heat up their own food. Coffee, Bottled water & cans of soda are also available for purchase.
  • Can I use a credit card on board?
    No, the Paramount is cash only on the boat. All tips, tackle, and galley purchases must be paid in cash.
  • Recommended Black Sea Bass Tackle
    • 6.5’ or 7-foot medium rod with Penn 2/0 or equivalent conventional reel equipped with 30 to 40-lb monofilament or Braid Equivalent. • 8oz to 10-oz bank sinkers • 2/0 and 3/0 bait holder hooks or a 2 hook Hi-lo rig with 2/0 or 3/0 bait holder hooks • Jigging can also work well for Sea Bass - Ava 17 or 27 jig or a 2oz jighead with a Gulp sand eel on it. You can also put a second hook above the jig with a Gulp sand eel on it or a hook with a feather style teaser above the jig.
  • Recommended Ling & Cod Tackle
    • 6.5’ or 7-foot medium rod with Penn 2/0 or equivalent conventional reel equipped with 30 to 40-lb monofilament or Braid Equivalent. • 10oz to 12-oz bank sinkers • 2/0 and 3/0 bait holder hooks or a 2 hook Hi-lo rig with 2/0 or 3/0 bait holder hooks
  • Recommended Porgy Tackle
    • 6.5’ or 7-foot medium rod with Penn 2/0 or equivalent conventional reel equipped with 30 to 40-lb monofilament or Braid Equivalent. • 6oz to 8-oz bank sinkers • #1 or #2 (NOT 2/0) bait holder hooks or a 2 hook Hi-lo rig with #1 or #2 bait holder hooks
  • Recommended Bluefish Tackle
    • Rod & Reel – 6½ or 7-foot medium rod with Penn Jigmaster or equivalent conventional reel (30 to 40-lb monofilament) or medium to heavy Spinning rod/reel combo with 30-40lb monofilament. • Ava 47 Jig (Ava 27 if using a spinning rod) • 3/0-5/0 Bluefish hooks with wire leader • 1/4oz. split shots up to 5oz. egg weights depending on conditions
